...to improve and develop their contribution to the successful resettlement of those being released from prison and thereby reduce offending behaviour.
The concept is based on the belief that intensive befriending and mentoring of ex-offenders, by the Community Chaplain and volunteers, prior to discharge from prison and in the immediate period after, can lead to a quantifiable reduction in the rate of re-offending behaviour.
Services are delivered by Local Projects operating indepedently, according to individual plans for their operational area. There is however a long tradition of cross referal of clients between projects when needed, where possible.
A South West Regional Partnership is being formed, which may provide a model for other regions if they wish to partner in a more formal way. This offers the potenial for shared "head office" fucntions and other economies of scale as well as a synergy with NOMS regional style of working.
