Community Chaplaincy aims to provide a professional focus and resource for all faith communities to improve and develop their contribution to the successful resettlement of those being released from prison and thereby reduce offending behaviour.

Community Chaplaincy service delivery is undertaken locally via independent faith based voluntary sector organisations across the U.K., contributing to the well-being of society for all through support and advocacy prior and post release to offenders and their families.
The Aims of Community Chaplaincy
- To Contribute to building safer communities
- Reducing crime and consequently reducing the numbers of victims of crime
- To enable ex-offenders in breaking the cycle of re offending
- To improve the life chances for ex-offenders
- To maintain faith community involvement in developing community solutions locally, regionally and nationally.
- Integrating with and complementing existing voluntary and statutory sector criminal justice agencies.
Community Chaplaincy projects provide trained mentors or befrienders (both employed and voluntary) to assist offenders with their resettlement needs.
Projects take a holistic person centred approach, seeking to support those with whom they are engaged with in any area of need. Particular areas of work for the delivery of support and advocacy are as follows :
- Accommodation
- Job hunting, training and education opportunities
- Family support
- Benefits
- Debt and finance management
- Substance misuse
- Social interaction and integration
- Spiritual and pastoral support
- Health issues
